Worship

Having grown up as a good “Southern Baptist” the idea of worship was something we participated in but not necessarily something we experienced. Worship is something I am learning to do. Today was the first time in a long time I actually experienced a worshipful experience and allowed myself to feel God’s presence. The other day we had a speaker talk about worship. He gave an illustration of a student of his who could not carry a tune, but when it came to singing he always gave it his all; to the point that others around him would begin to look around and wonder where “that” sound as coming from. He always sang as if no one could hear him except for God. That is true worship!

There are too many people out there who, unfortunately, are just like me and worry about what they sound like or what people will think if they raise their hands to the Lord when they want to reach Him in praise. The other day when I felt true worhip I was relieved when the worship leader told everyone to reach up their hands. It gave me an excuse to allow myself the freedom to reach out to God. My hope is that next time I will not fear perception when I want to experience Him because it’s not about what others think. It’s about my relationship with God and how I relate to Him that really matters.

Where Am I?
